From the Mammen slowly emerged the Ringerike evolving spirals,
bands and stippling into graceful tendrils and a general feeling
of movement. The evolution of the Mammen "Great Beast" into
the Ringerike "Great Beast" appears in Fig 11. Note the
complex animal standing guard at the front of the wind vane from
Heggen (Fig 12). Ringerike is often seen in the preserved wood
carvings in the old churches as can be seen on a 1972 Norwegian
stamp. |
